For the Love of Learning

My Goals and Schooling Philosophy:
I have designed this co-op to enrich students’ learning and focus in the academic activities that are beneficial (and just more fun!) to do in a group, such as writing activities, book discussions, math games, and learning projects!
I loosely follow a Charlotte Mason ~ Classical Education framework for learning, which I integrate into our learning and activities. This includes using real books to learn about the subjects, integrating different disciplines into our learning (for example: practicing our observation and drawing skills during science), encouraging memorization, and focusing on foundational skills.
We also consistently practice and build upon small skills (ie. multiplication facts, public speaking, paragraph writing) so that by the end of the year, we have learned these skills without even realizing we’ve been learning them the whole year.
Daily Schedule
9:30-10 Morning time – Pledge of Allegiance, Bible verse memorization, read Bible story, review math facts, snack
10-11:30 Language Arts – Reading, Writing, and Spelling support
11:30-12:30 Lunch and Recess
12:30-2 Main Lesson – I focus on a specific learning topic for each month (science, history, and language arts based) and will send out an Academic Calendar at the beginning of the school year.
Curriculum
This year during our science time we will be focusing on the Middle Ages. I’m excited for all of the hands-on activities and experiments I have planned! We will be using The Story of the World as our starting-point for these content areas, but will be adapting it to our classroom needs. Each month will be a new topic with a writing focus and learning project. I love our learning projects! We’ve done our own reader’s theater with 1001 Nights and writing our own stories when we were learning about India and the Middle East, and we’ve created Medieval stained glass art gallery and wrote about Small Moments during our study of Medieval Europe.
Reminder: As homeschool parents, you are responsible for your students’ education. This co-op will not replace your homeschooling. Some content areas, especially math, will not be able to be covered in depth due to our limited time together, and will need to be covered the remaining days of the week at home. I can share additional curriculum that I use at home, but you are not required to purchase or use the same curriculum at home.
Class Details
π This co-op is geared towards 3rd through 5th graders (Ages 8-10), but siblings who are a good match are allowed to join us
π«We will meet at my home in Oregon City, I have a dedicated classroom set up and a large back yard for students to play and explore.
πUPDATED: The cost is reduced to $150 per month, paid for at the beginning of each month. This will include all school supplies your child will need.
π UPDATED: WE HAVE A SPOT FOR ONE MORE FAMILY TO JOIN. Message me if you would like additional information to join us!
Often, our classes are at full capacity, and we are unable to accommodate any additional participants. However, we encourage you to join our waitlist so that we can keep you updated on future class offerings. Your interest is important to us, and we want to ensure that you have the opportunity to participate in our upcoming sessions. Thank you for considering our classes, and we look forward to welcoming you in the near future!
FAQs
Do I need to pack a lunch? What about school supplies?
Yes π Students will eat lunch and snack with one another every day. I will send home a parent packet with additional details, but the school supply list is very short; pretty much just a water bottle, lunch, and snack for every class!
Do parents need to volunteer or stay the whole class?
This co-op is designed so parents can drop off their students and pick up in the afternoon. However, if moms would like to stay with your child and help out, that is totally fine!
Will this cover school for the day for my child?
I think so! We cover reading, writing, math, and content (science/social studies) every single class. I am very up front with what we will be studying so you can make sure to count that towards your child’s school for the day! If you want to do more school when you get home, that’s up to you.
Co-op will obviously not be able to cover all of the subject areas fully, and for example, you’ll need your own math curriculum at home at the bare minimum for the rest of the week. But we try to have this come along side your regular schooling, not be extra work for your child!
Can I do half-days?
Yes, but I don’t recomend it. Students benefit so much from being with their group of peers for the whole time. However, we could split mornings/afternoons if that’s something you want to discuss.
What type of reading and writing is covered?
I try to cover what your student needs! We work on reading skills based on the Science of Reading and Orton-Gillingham that incorporates best practices for teaching reading for all students, and especially those who experience dyslexia. We break up into small groups for our language arts time, and students will work with other students at the same reading ability.
